Heading from Avignon to the Gorge du Tarn late next week but planning to stop off in the Ardeche for a couple of days en route.

Looking for quiet-ish (we don't have kids!) campsites with character, well located for cragging...

We liked St Pal campsite just W of Les Roziers. Better positioned for Jonte than the Tarn cliffs, but quiet and friendly.

In reply to EricH: There's a very nice camp site run by a German couple in Le Rozier - Les Peupliers. Relaxed and friendly.

In reply to EricH: I haven't stayed there myself but there is a camp site by the river and close to the main climbing at Mazet Plage.I think it is:

Camping Les Actinidias close to Casteljau - http://www.camping-actinidias.com/

In reply to EricH: Just got back from the Tarn, we stayed at Beldoire in les Vignes. Very nice place, river, pool, decent facilities, 30 min walk to crags. I'd recommend it.

Sweet campsite, right next to the river, just down from Pont d'Arc. Nice people, also does kayak and canoe rental. Really recommend it

For the Tarn - Les Peupliers @ Les Roz is ok and you can walk into town.

For the Ardeche the one at Mazet Beach is great. If you are lucky you will get a spot next to the river. Quiet and with great climbing on the doorstep.
