Over The Moors Comp 1, 4 kb

The winners of this competition are:

Tom Bloxham from Manchester, Stephen Barby from Holmfirth, Rob The Juggler, Climbing Pixie and Raelene Cowie from Sheffield.

The answers? Nial has promised to list them later in this thread, but if you know the names of the nine crags I'm sure there will be another prize.

Do you know your crags?

If so, identify three of the crags in this competition and stand a chance of winning Over The Moors, the new BMC guidebook to Kinder, Bleaklow and Chew Valley. There are five copies up for grabs.

In reply to UKC Articles: Just a little hint for anyone entering the comp:

READ THE QUESTION

As I'm wearing my official hat here, I have removed the work 'fu@king' from that advice

In reply to Niall Grimes:

I listed all of them just to prove I am a damn clever dickie. Does that mean my entry will be void?

;-(

In reply to Chris Craggs: We'll let you off with that Chris, i was more thinking of the other end of the spectrum. And who knows, you might even win three books, as opposed to some entrants, who might just win a third of a book.
 Calder 13 Jun 2012
In reply to Niall Grimes:

Don't help them. If they can't read properly it gives me a better chance of winning...

... or is it me that can't read?
 Niall Grimes 13 Jun 2012
In reply to Calder:

You don't stand a cance of winninh ha ha ha.

If the above line has disheartened you, then yes, you can read. If it's no odds to you then no, you can't.

It's getting to the stage where I'm actually impressed when someone gives three answers.

Hee heee I'm glad I impressed.
They're probably 3 wrong answers though

And you wanted people to identify all nine crags : o )
 Simon Caldwell 14 Jun 2012
In reply to Niall Grimes:

What do I win for identifying which is the only photo not taken from the new guide?
 Furanco C 14 Jun 2012
In reply to Toreador: the booby prize- the rockfax.
 Wingnut 14 Jun 2012
In reply to Toreador:
LOL, was just thinking that! Although even then, there's a photo of the same route, just featuring a climber with a better gurn. :
 Wingnut 14 Jun 2012
In reply to Niall Grimes:
I can send you a correct entry if it'd make you feel loved, but only 'cos I've got a copy of OTM on the desk in front of me. :
 Niall Grimes 14 Jun 2012
In reply to Mick Ryan - UKC and UKH: I knew to defer to your knowledge. But even if the question was name nine crags the answer would still be the same:

Chew Valley.

(Not) very funny Frank!

PS Wait 'till you see the next Northern England guide - ha-ha.
 Furanco C 14 Jun 2012
In reply to Chris Craggs: Hopefully I'll see the PDFs before most- as I'll be helping good old rockfax with their route-checking? You really need Whitestone in there!

In reply to UKC Articles:

Wow did this get my psyched for the moors! fingers crossed on the guide book :P
 Ed Navigante 16 Jun 2012
In reply to Furanco C:

Yeah, more NYmoors stuff! I had to kill (well, pay twice the list price) to get the last copy of North East England on the web.
 Furanco C 16 Jun 2012
In reply to Ed Navigante: Send Steve Crowe some encouragement/abuse to get the new guide out. No one is more anxious than I to see the new version in the flesh!

Being a pedant I feel I should point out that "Q: Name any three crags in the photographs above?" isn't really a question, but rather an instruction which doesn't require a question mark.

My question is do I have to specify the photo number with my crag 'guess' or can I just list three likely crags that are included in the guide?

Nice photos by the way.

Yes photo number with your crag 'guess'.

For example: Over The Moors Comp 1, Houghton Quarry

> Nice photos by the way.

Aren't they just?

Does that mean my entry is void then?

It certainly doesn't say in the comp that a photo number should be matched to a crag 'guess'.

No we will count all entries with three crags. Our mistake.

Cheers Mick, I suspect that could make quite a few people happy again

It is a hard quiz if you don't know the area.

 Niall Grimes 18 Jun 2012
It probably is quite tricky but a bit of research on the UKC photo archives should help.

There have been a lot of entries so far, and people obviously recognise them. But the one thing I'd say is that so many people are just giving one answer. Oh, sorry. Guess. God loves a trier and all that (the way he also hates a smartie) but you're not going to win with just one answer. Gash! I mean Guess.

Well that's a bit of a bugger. I think I only put one down. Shame I can name 4!

Could go for cryptic clues instead...

1- 00110001 00111001 00111000 00110100
2 -take it or leave it
6- German child slips up
9- Icon slung high.

Or is that still not fun?...

Route 1) A gift from the stage is risque when avoiding a start?

That will have to do for now.
