How near to a pub is it? What is it like as a hostel?

last time I was there was 8 or 9 years ago and it was pretty standard as far as hostles go. It's less than 5 minutes walk from the pub. Riverside bar at the Scafell hotel Rosthwaite.

In reply to An Triubhas: beautifully situated,licenced so toucan drink on site or a pleasant 5-10 minute stroll to the local pubs.

You should enjoy it.

Full of crusty old gimmers, braying geoffreys and germans. Same as any yoof ostel/ jungendherberg more than 20 miles from a city centre. Take out a second mortgage for the local 'gastro pubs' (actually not bad food). After a hard day shredding trail in the local hills it's a pretty nice place stop a night - especially if you come down along the beck through the woods from the northwest.
