I'll kick off with billy Connolly. Just watching reruns of his route 66 series I can't think of another presenter who'd do as well. There's something quite beguiling about his whole manner.
 Clarence 12 Jul 2012
In reply to graeme jackson:

Tom Baker, John Thompson, Angela Rippon, Gwen Taylor immediately spring to mind.
 Liam M 12 Jul 2012
In reply to graeme jackson: No longer with us, and was only occasionally on tv, but John Peel.
In reply to Clarence: Sod TV, radio is where it's at for pleasant voices; Charlotte Green for one. Especially good when she's got the giggles.

Just one word - Frostrup!
 deepstar 12 Jul 2012
In reply to graeme jackson: A bit dated now but I always liked the voice of Sir James Robertson Justice,of the "Doctor in the House" films. As a teenager reading "The Lord of the Rings" I thought his was the voice of Gandalf.

Leslie Phillips - Ding dong!
 SFM 12 Jul 2012
In reply to graeme jackson:

The Italian presenter Francesco da Mosto always finds the right pitch/tone. Thant said only seen him presenting on Italy so perhaps easier for him to be enthused about his home nation.

 Hat Dude 13 Jul 2012
In reply to graeme jackson:

What about Martin Jarvis, probably the king of voiceovers.
 Inhambane 13 Jul 2012
What about the voice of rugby league MBE Ray French "twen...ty eight points to twelve"

It reminds me of Sunday roasts and damp Kitchens and sunny Wembley cup finals.
In reply to Inhambane: That's because he's from Sen Tellens, innit.

 Inhambane 13 Jul 2012
In reply to Pursued by a bear: I know but he ironed the scouse out of his voice.
 SFM 13 Jul 2012
In reply to Southern Man:

Great shout. I could listen to her all day.

Not so much a tv personality but the late great Bill McClaren was for me(and I'm sure many others) the voice of rugby. Perfectly suited. I'm sure that he could have been the voice over for many other things. Does anyone know if he ever did?
In reply to Inhambane: There isn't anything of a Liverpool influence in the older St Helens accent. Things may have changed; I haven't been back there for a while.

 stonemaster 13 Jul 2012
In reply to Tony Naylor: Fenella..ooooh that brings back memories...
Rigid Raider 14 Jul 2012
Not TV but radio - the BBC Economics Editor Stephanie Flanders has a pleasant voice and superb clarity.
 Dave Garnett 14 Jul 2012
In reply to Rigid Raider:

Yes, Stephanie Flanders is special, although I quite often can't remember exactly what it was she was saying!

Jonathan Miller is the voice of cultured reason to me.
 nufkin 17 Jul 2012
In reply to Dave Garnett:

Was just listening to the Cerys Matthews show in iplayer and was reminded of this thread. Not television again, but a really lovely voice anyway.
birdie num num 17 Jul 2012
In reply to graeme jackson:
Brian Sewell. An inflection of elitism and sneering disgust that Num Num would love to cultivate for himself, particulary for addressing the babylon or other irritatingly patronising folk who pretend to be interested in your welfare.
