Hi there
Just finished reading dave mcleods blog about running up the ben before breakfast,my understanding is that he was on fat burning mode.I thought that when your glycogen tank emptied you started using muscle protein for energy before fat,if that was the case would you use big muscles first like legs first rather than precious small ones like arms which being a climber would be a bit pointless, whats your thoughts guys
cheers dougie
In reply to d conacher: Blood sugar first, then glycogen (stored in liver), then fat (which is converted to glycogen) and finally protein (muscles). Fairly sure size of muscle has nuffink to do with priority of usage... Good luck.
Agree on size not being part of the equation. Watch your eyesight suffer if you ever start using muscle for fuel. The muscles that move the iris don't need to change much to leave you more poorly sighted.
In reply to d conacher: Agreed with everybody else. Think about it; if you burnt fat before you burnt muscle, how would anyone ever lose any fat, or gain any muscle?
