Down Jacket or Vapour Rise Guide as an oh %#@$ layer.

For summer alpine, 4000ers. I can't decide. Vapour Rise Guide is heavier, Marmot Guide is bulkier.

oh %#@$ in summer probably means a thunderstorm, so down might not be ideal. The VRG would probably do the job - I've never seen one, but from the description it sounds like a kind of modernised Buffalo? - but is heavy. Ideal would probably be a midweight synthetic insulated jacket, something like a Montane Flux, Arcteryx Atom SV etc.
