Be aware that new regulations issued in Nepal this week mean that all trekkers must now take either a porter or guide from a regulated trekking agency with them - so no more solo trekking !
This comes about after the recent murder of a Belgian girl in Helambu area and various other trekkers who have 'disappeared' over the years

How it will be implemented I suspect has not yet been sorted out

In reply to L.A.: Well that sucks!

"the new policy change will increase budget of FITs by only around $10 per day. “This is a very nominal amount and it won´t affect tourist arrivals,”"

For a 14 day trek that is £140 which I say is not a nominal amount!!

In reply to Olli-C: Thats actually under £100 for 14 days

In reply to L.A.: Although TAAN are trying to make it compulsory the government have not yet made a decision on this. More info here http://trekinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?p=59603#post59603
