ok I'm dithering over the purchase of a new waterproof shell. I want a jacket to take with me on weekend cragging trips around Britain from say March to October, and occasional summer trips to places like the Dolomites. Most of the time it will hopefull live in the bottom of my pack but might need to be pressed into action if the heavens open while climbing, for walk-offs, back at the campsite, etc.
Originally I was intending to shell out for a decent Pro Shell - and I see Berghaus have the Asgard jacket which looks great at about £170. However, Go Outdoors are advertising Montane's Atomic jacket, made from Pertex Shield, at about half that price.
Give the use outlined above, and the price difference, which would you choose?

In reply to ripper: you say yourself living in the bottom of the pack most of the time,

under those circumstances a standard light jkt would do the job,
Montane Minimus or Atomic
Marmot Mica or Precip
Rab tempo or pulse

there are others too

In reply to ripper:

Montane Minimus (pertex shield) all the way.
