In reply to kwoods:

That high? Loch A'an is at 725m, and I'm not sure the base of the Shelterstone is 175m higher.

In reply to Ginger McGrath: 850m - 900m going by the contours on the map
 kwoods 26 Nov 2012
In reply to davy_boy: Going by the contours, there's about a solid 150m of easy slopes above the loch before the contours cram together. 850m at the least.

In reply to Ginger McGrath:

memory map 1:25,000 map 748m to be exact

In reply to Kimberley: that is the height at the shelterstone boulder. the foot of the crag where the routes start is at least 850m.

In reply to davy_boy:

I agree, depends how you read the original question!

The base of the actual Shelterstone itself is 740m, the base of the Shelter Stone crag is indeed 850 or 900m !

You're always near a map if you have access to the internet. For example, Bing (http://www.bing.com/maps/) lets you zoom into OS 1:25000 maps. There are other map sites out there, that let you plan routes as well.

In reply to Ginger McGrath:

If you look at the Cairngorms guide, it says 850m

In reply to everyone: cheers! Its higher than I thought!

In reply to Ginger McGrath: http:/... has 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 maps. The search is a bit crap as it defauls to streets, but you get used to it. Use it all the time when I have a quick question like this.

At the bottom right of the map is a text box with a link to your viewed map so you email mates easily as well.
