Bangkok accommodation recommendation

looking for recommendations for nice, quiet and fairly cheap to stay in Bangkok.

ideally handy for the city and sights just for a couple of days, but I'd rather avoid Khao San road.

Not the cheapest, but possibly the best hotel (well, actually hostel) I've stayed in in SE Asia. Set in a quiet residential back street, only a 10min walk from Khao San Rd:

In reply to 1234None: Sukhamvit area is ok. Out of the city centre but with an elevated train line so good transport links.
