In reply to chrisbaggy: a figment of your imagination...

Jokes aside there is plenty in south wales if the conditions are right, do a crag search on UKC and join the south wales winter facebook group for conditions updates

There is a guidebook in production but it's not finished yet. Up and Under is selling interim topos that are printed in an 4 format.

Your best bet, for info, is to join this:

I can't see there being much to go at really, I'm in Swansea and it's really warm. I can't even be bothered to drive the few miles to have a look.
Last time there was anything worth climbing it was far far colder than this in Swansea, and it had been colder for a lot longer.

Cheers for the info guys, and for the pessimism iksander, I hope I can prove you wrong at some point! ha ha!

You want the South Wales Winter Climbs group and not the South Wales Mountaineering Club page. To all the folks who've 'liked' SWMC in the past day or so, you've liked the wrong page! I don't mind really, but if you're expecting lots of winter info, you're going to be out of luck.

Just back from a brilliant day on Torpantu, low down was a bit thin but the main fall was in good shape, used snow chains to access the car park from talybont and wouldn't have been able to get up without them

Climbed at Torpantu today and conditions are Good. Did the curtain to the Right of the top pitch. A bit thin and could do with the Turf a bit moor frozen to top out. Its probably been climbed befor ?
lot of Snow on the Road.

In reply to Mitch V8S: Hoping to go up to Torpantau tomorrow Thurs. Anyone know latest road conditions, and best way in?
 tipsy 23 Jan 2013
In reply to hannahp: Fresh snow last night. Road will be impossible without snow chains and/or 4x4.

when I was in Uni there was a super cold winter (1985/86) and all the waterfalls in the Neath Valley froze, it was amazing. No guide books, you just walked up the valley from Pontneddfechan and climbed the bits that were vertical - great fun but I have no idea if they are in condition this year

In reply to hannahp: Tonpantau Falls, Thurs. Whose coat is this jacket?!
 The Ivanator 26 Jan 2013
In reply to hannahp: Went on a hopeful dash to Torpantau this morning, thinking it might be high enough/cold enough to have survived the thaw till today. No such luck, a nice snowy walk and a look at a gushing waterfall in a remote spot was some consolation.
Fingers crossed we get another cold snap before winter is out ...ideally one that coincides with a weekend!

well midweek had the route with more climbers on it than you can find at breakfast in Pete`s eats, so a quiet weekend would be a miracle
