Moving to Qatar this year and already planning my climbing holidays from there. Any recommendations for Qatar itself (I realise that is minimal) and elsewhere?
In reply to Will Cat: climb in oman
In reply to Will Cat: The UAE probably has a more active climbing fraternity than Oman, with plenty of fairly easily accessible sport, trad, and serious big mountain routes - generally located within 1-2 hours of Dubai. There are also DWS opportunities around the Musandam coast. Trips are regularly organised by UAE based climbers.

There is also a good guidebook to the UAE by Toby Foord Kelcey. www.redarmadapublishing.com

THanks - DWS looks good. I'm from Torquay, so it's probably pretty similar. BUt with more sharks...
In reply to Will Cat:

I've not done any DWS -- but from what I know of the area virtually all of the Musandam DWS requires boat access. The UAE climbers have to arrange boat trips from Dibba - just over the Omani border, so any visit from Doha would probably involve getting tourist visas for both UAE and Oman.
