Hi all,

Just a quick question, when is the best time of year to climb in Avon or Cheddar/ when does the season really start? Is it warm enough in Feb/Mar or is it better to wait until May/June?

Thanks
Ben

In reply to Ben Taggart-Ryan: Purely depends on what temperature and weather you're prepared to climb in. Plenty of quick drying crags around

In reply to Ben Taggart-Ryan:

All year if you choose the right crag/weather.

In reply to Ben Taggart-Ryan: For quite a few climbs at Cheddar the season finishes in mid March ...if you wait till May/June classics like Stone Cold Fever and Coronation Street will be out of bounds till Autumn.
Make sure you are aware of the access arrangements if you climb there (see the BMC regional access database or refer to the guidance in Martin Crocker's 2009 Cheddar Gorge Climbs).

is 31st March the last day for Coronation Street? I really must get on it this year

In reply to Ben Taggart-Ryan:

And avon can be a real sun trap and ace winter venue. I've climbed in a t-shirt in December and early March. It also dries freakishly fast and few routes suffer from seepage.

In reply to Kemics: 15th of March I believe.
