Hi,

Off to Llanberis for some slate climbing and scrambling early March.

Any one have any suggestions where to camp? Good facilities and relativly close to a pub.

We have thought about the campsite at the base of Tryfan - but no pub near by!

I have a car. So Llanberis area - 15 miles either side would be ok.

Cheers

Nant Peris - the camp site opposite the Vaynol Arms.

There are two campsites, side by side. IIRC, the one slightly closer to Llanberis is cheaper, and has better (coin-op) showers!

Good spots, but worth checking the forcast - that end of the pass is a real wind tunnel !

In reply to Andypandyroo: I stay at a site accross the tarn from Plas y Brenin....

Its a rough arse farm site, BUT, great views, and is opposite the RAC Boulders for a spot of bouldering if you fancy!

In reply to Andypandyroo: Dol Gam - just before you come into Capel Curig on the A5. Really nice showers but no electric in the shower block. 5 minute stroll to the Tyn Y Coed, the best pub around that area in my opinion.
Otherwise the campsite opposite the Vanyol Arms in Nant Peris is fine. Stayed at both.

The two opposite the vaynol are fairly poor standard and facilities but are in a good location and the one nearer llanberis is cheap.

Always stay at Dolgam. Basic but an ideal location and pubs within walking distance.

Thanks for all the suggestions....driven past Dolgam loads of times, and I like the location.
So will most probably go for this one....thanks all!

I used to use Dolgam if I wanted to be near Ogwen, or the one above if Llanberis.

I always thought the Vaynol ones were pretty scummy.

Define Scummy? I stayed there numerous times while looking for houses in the area and I'd say it's the cheapest campsite in the area for the amenities provided.

In reply to Andypandyroo: Joe's farm on Ceunant Street/Capel Goch offers camping if you want good access to the village. It's a basic pitch up and go but only a ten minute walk into Llanberis. (follow the youth hostel signs from joe browns corner shop)
