In reply to aln:

Yes I think so, just novelty ones but still real and at the Academy Awards ceremony. I'll look it up...

In reply to Blue Straggler:

Probably one problem is that (as mentioned in that article), often multiple animals are used in the same role

In reply to aln: Thanks Straggler, interesting wee article. I'd never heard of the PATSY's.

In reply to Blue Straggler: but a lot of poncy actors have stand In doubles ad well as soon as things get mildly uncomfortable.

In reply to Jim C:

The stand-ins and doubles don't tend to do the work that the Oscar is awarding though!
There WAS a big fuss made over the nomination of Linda Blair as Best Supporting Actress for The Exorcist, as Mercedes McCambridge felt that HER performance as the voice of Pazuzu possessing Regan, was what people remembered and enjoyed...well I say a "big fuss"....it was McCambridge who made that fuss

Oliver Reed?

In reply to colina:

Lassie would be the first involuntary transgender Oscar (a male playing a female). (Linda Hunt won for playing a man in The Year of Living Dangerously, but that wasn't involuntary )
