Hi there,

Anyone one been up on the West Face of Aonach Mor recently?

I was up there a fortnight ago and we thought to have an easy day on Easter Gully (II). Ended up taking an awfully long time on the ice and managed to catch the last gondola down again.

So if anyone has done it, what grade did you think the conidtions made it? The ice seemed pretty steep to me, more like tough grade III. to be fair I'm out of practice and out of condition, and have spent too long flying a desk in the south of England rather than frolicking about the hills every weekend. But still - it seemed as hard as some of the grade IVs I've done in the past (some of the icy sections anyway - the rest was a snow plod).

Any thoughts?

In reply to G. Tiger, Esq.: I reckoned it was about III when I did it in Dec 09 but that was early season when it was a bit lean.

In reply to G. Tiger, Esq.:
Consider yourself lucky to have caught the last gondola down, otherwise it would have been the walk of shame for you.
