I'm currently planning a 2 month trip across Europe from Paris this summer. So far the plan is to go from Paris to Prague to Vienna, then a short section of Eurovelo 6 to Budapest.

I'd like to end up in central Romania - i.e. Transylvania and the Carpathians. My question is how to get there from Budapest. Heading due east looks very flat and possibly industrial. I could instead go north to Slovakia, crossing some of the Tatra mountains, then east through the Ukrainian part of the Carpathians into Romania.

Does this sound like a good idea? I'd be interested to hear about any must-see areas (or places to avoid).

In reply to James FR:
Being Slovak myself I'd defo recommend Tatras. My other half, who is English loves the place. You can also stop in Lesser/Greater Fatra on way there (where I'm originally from). You could also look up Slovensky Raj in south east - via Ferrata style walkies up waterfall gorges in untouched forest (you don't need ferrata set though)

Thanks, I'll look into those suggestions.
