In reply to Nigel R Lewis:

It's in. Ice is really thick and solid. Just got back from there. Was getting super busy as we were leaving though.

In reply to K.W.: Good news, whats road access like to the area, does it require 4x4/chains? Should still be good tomorrow I guess as still freezing overnight. Are any of the other falls in condition in the Brecons does anyome know?

Cheers

In reply to paul greenhow:

Road access from Merthyr was completely clear, no chains/ 4x4 needed, and I imagine it will be clear from Talybont-on-Usk too.

Should still be good tomorrow, though I suspect it recieved a beating after we left. Lots of parties getting ready to go at it when we toped out. We were one of the first teams there. Get there as early as you can if you do go.

In reply to Nigel R Lewis: Think we were the last pair off the falls today and there was loads of solid ice left all the way up, much more of it and better quality than in January

In reply to Nigel R Lewis:

Craig Y Llyn looked good as we drove past it to Torpantau. It was in good nick, very fat. I'd imagine RAC should be good as well.

In reply to Nigel R Lewis: Just to confirm Talybont approach is all clear too, falls should be in for the rest of the weekend judging by amount of ice today and predicted temperatures. Wear a helmet as plates were fracturing off with quite a few axe placements today!

In reply to Nigel R Lewis: not sure how Torpantau is but Craig y fro RAC corner is still frozen and climable today so guess falls are still in.
Fingers crossed the freeze stays untill weekend

In reply to Nigel R Lewis: Did Iron Claws minus the third pitch yesterday which looked very fragile in the sense that the umbrellas didn't look very attatched, and another route at Craig Y Llyn. Some excellent ice (and some not so excellent, but very climbable and lots of fun to be had. If it stays this cold it'll be good for a while...
In reply to Nigel R Lewis:

Climbed Torpantau yesterday. It is still all there and in reasonable conditions. Certainly better condition that Iron Claws was.

In reply to Nigel R Lewis: Did iron claws and douglas gap today, much the same to report as the other guys, except we got a very early start and had topped out on iron claws by 9am, by which time it was starting to drip with the full glare of the sun on it. then went and did a soft but fat douglas gap. routes are still in fine nick, but get there VERY early! on another note we checked out virgin falls as it looked fat from the road, but on closer inspection it was rotten, was probably in nick 2 days ago but has suffered in the sun the last 2 days.
