Hi, When i started climbing about 4 years ago I was only doing sport so ended up buying some cheap solid gates - Which was a mistake as I very quickly started doing far more trad.

I feel its time to ditch the heavy short draws for some newer light ones. Something like dmm prowires? ANy good deals out there that dont cost £100 for ten or is that just the price of these things

Thanks

On Cotswold outdoors website they had a DMM proWire (20cm) for £ 8 each. I ordered 6, but they were on sale.

Also, the main climbing shop in Hathersage (Derbyshire) has a WIldCountry Trad Pack 5 quickdraws for £ 40 ( £ 8 each), but they may have run out by now (visited the Peak District on Easter day as I was in the area and grabbed one 5-pack on the fly).

Sorry but a tenner is a bargain these days for a decent quickdraw. I recently got some very nice DMM Spectre draws from Needlesports.

In reply to garbage: they're not cheap are they. I'll check out joe brown and cotswold does have prowires at £8 still but pretty short slings.

Thanks for the help

I would say they are quite cheap considering they are a life saving piece of kit that has had years of R&D put into them

Sorry but £100 for ten wiregate QDs is pretty much as good as it gets. You might manage £85 or so on a deal. Wiregates fetch a premium. I have done well on sport draws (£64 for ten lovely Camp Orbit QDs) but that was during specific single weeks when Go Outdoors had them heavily discounted.

Why not spread the cost? You have QDs and there is nothing really WRONG with them. Get a few wiregates on longer extenders and use them where appropriate, and slowly build it all up. Then you never feel the cost

I am selling 20 nearly new Wild Country Xenon wiregates for £50.00.

(Outside.co.uk does 20cm extenders for £3, so you could get 10 draws for total of £80.00).

Email me if you are interested in the wiregates.

I personally find Wildwires feel cheap & nasty and would sooner pay an extra couple of quid for something like Aeros or Spectres. Nothing in general against Wild Country, I just don't like that particular krab.

In reply to garbage: Thanks guys, alot here to look at.

was initially very up for the xnenons on offer but once you take into account the slings as well I think I'd just prefer to buy new.

Thanks though

Not sure why you think it's a great deal.

Rock+Run have been selling them even cheaper for the last month or so and you could get the 15cm ones from Go Outdoors a further 10% cheaper than that if you wanted.

In reply to The Ex-Engineer:

Interesting, thanks for the info. At the time of posting this the 15cm Nitros at Go Outdoors are £14.40 each with a discount card or £66.60 for 5.

Rock + Run will save you a further £1.49 per 5, so still think V12 is a good deal but R+R is slightly better.

Needlesports are doing DMM spectres for 9 quid each- seems a pretty good deal and there really nice krabs (personally not such a fan of WC ones)
