Just wanted to let folk know about the Northumberland Walking & Climbing Festival, which is coming to Belford on the 19-21 July.

Festival HQ is the Blue Bell Hotel, Belford, which will offer a warm welcome and undoubtedly some refreshing ales. The pub provides the venue for a talk from our guest speaker and a prize pub quiz on Friday, and a free BBQ and ceilidh on Saturday night. Rain will not stop play!

The closest campsite is South Meadows Farm, a few minutes' stumble away.

On Saturday, the sandstone crags of Kyloe and Bowden are close by, with walking options in the Cheviot and Simonside Fells. Local guides have kindly offered to run taster sessions for those who have never tried it before, or you can just do your own thing.

Did we mention the prizes?

There's nothing to book. Just join us in the pub from around 7.30pm on Friday, or on Saturday morning. All welcome, from absolute beginners to old hats. You can find out more on the BMC website or at

In reply to Richard Alderton: Should be good. The sunshine is booked I assume?
It's OK. I know people at the Met Office.
