Is anyone out at the moment? How are conditions? I am considering heading out for 2 weeks to try some of the easier NF routes.

In reply to Roberttaylor: Snowy. Also cold, so higher the snow has not fully consolidated.

In reply to Roberttaylor:
Conditions for the mixed routes are currently excellent with many of the popular classics being climbed and very banked up for the time of year. There are also now good walking trails in the Vallee Blanche and the high south facing rock routes are clear and being climbed. Folk climbing on the Frendo and Mallory today and yesterday. Heaps of folk on all the Triangle du Tacul ice and mixed routes. Weathers been unseasonly cold and more snow being forecast! Lower down mid mountain rock routes in the Aig Rouge and from Midi mid station upwards still have snowy approaches!
Cheers Ron

In reply to Ron Walker: I haven't been up in the mountains for a while and wondered what the Sentinel Rouge on the south face of Mont Blanc or the Bonatti Zappelli on the GPDA looks like. Anyone seen over that way recently? Is there any snow sticking to them?

For skiing or climbing...?

In reply to jon: For skiing, I wouldn't fancy climbing either of the routes, scary seracs!

In reply to Roberttaylor: There is still quite a lot of snow around at the minute and plenty of skiers around the Aiguille du Midi. Had a go at the Midi-Plan traverse on Tuesday in poor conditions, take a look here for photos of conditions in the area http://roebuckmountaineering.co.uk/blog/

Time permitting over the summer I'll be uploading regular photos of the Mont Blanc area onto my Facebook Alps 2013 album at

In reply to Roberttaylor: well the weather is looking grim for the next few days some fresh snow yesterday and down in the valley it has been raining pretty much all night so I can imagine there is a lot of snow about high up
