Was having a natter tonight and we got talking about how the Dales are so much quieter since Foot and Mouth. I realise its not particularly topical but we couldn't think of any reason this should be so. 3 Peaks and Malham of course are as popular as ever, but get away from these area and its dead.
We considered the impact that right to roam may have had, but before that we didn't take much notice when on the fells of rights of way and still bumped into more folk than nowadays. Its strange that F&M seemed to be a catlyst to the areas decline in popularity
On the other hand the Lakes bounced back and is more popular since F&M up till the present day
In reply to Crag Pony: but your forgetting one thing ,everyones wearing silly hats and bouldering 10 feet of the ground,and writing them up in guide books !! no ones wanting to walk to some of the crags your thinking of ..
