I've climbed some good corner routes recently and have got a bit of a taste for them. Can you suggest some good corners from VS to E1 in the peak district.

Goliath's Groove is already on the list.

Is Great Portland Street on the list?

Barely a route, but there's a lovely little solo/boulder problem here:

But......... Goliath's Groove is a groove, not a corner isn't it?!

Close enough!

Great Portland Street looks cool.

Then I'll suggest Original Route at High Tor.

In reply to dsh:

Some good suggestions here, looks like trips to Millstone and Stoney are in order.
 GrahamD 06 Sep 2013
In reply to dsh:

For VS - E1 corners, Willersley trumps Stoney hands down IMO.
 Al Evans 06 Sep 2013
In reply to dsh: If you go to Stoney don't miss
Sin
Glory Road
What The Hell and How The Hell
and Brown Corner in the quarry.
Or Green Crack in Carls Wark area

Has anybody suggested Green Gut at Froggatt?
OP dsh 06 Sep 2013
In reply to GrahamD:

A trip to Willersley too then, but isn't there some access issues?

Green Gut is good but it's HS and I've done it already.

John Henry Quarry >

Ferny-lee Crack * E1 5b

I'm usually reluctant to suggest routes I haven't done on threads like this, but making an exception here (it's on my to-do list).

Slightly esoteric perhaps, how about The Rat at Ladybower Quarry?

In reply to deepsoup: That's interesting, I was involved in the ffa of both the above routes, in fact Ferny Lee Crack I dug from the grot, surprisingly the lead is credited in the guide to Con Carey, but I can't think I would have handed it to him after all the work I did, maybe Con will remember on here but I still think it was my lead?

Another vote for Louie Groove at Ramshaw. Make sure your technique is up to scratch first!

I think that 'corner' to grit aficionados is anything over 20 cm wide
 Darron 06 Sep 2013
In reply to dsh:

Go do Corrugation corner! ....oh... It's not in the Peak.
Worlds best VS corner though?
OP dsh 09 Sep 2013
In reply to Darron:

I will do when I move to the USA.

In the mean time The Mall and Great Portland Street were great!

Me too...Unprintable.
 deepsoup 09 Sep 2013
In reply to Jon Stewart:
Eek! I tried that a couple of weeks ago - complete and utter failure! Unfinished business for another time.

A mate pointed out later that it really is a no-win situation, even if you succeed on Unprintable that just means you have to try the Dangler.
 deacondeacon 09 Sep 2013
In reply to deepsoup: The Dangler is a joy compared to the Unprintable, just looks intimidating.
Yarding on jugs rather than jamming. Lovely.

Is this a height thing as I thought it was soft HVS when I did it but several people I have climbed it with thought it was a frightener? Is the top that much harder for the shorter climber?
 Offwidth 09 Sep 2013
In reply to Reach>Talent: Been E1 for ages now.
 Michael Gordon 10 Sep 2013
In reply to Reach>Talent:

I think it largely depends if you step slightly off route left to place high gear or not. Pretty bold if you don't.

In reply to Calder: Goliath's Groove is an off width in a corner

Only at the bottom.
Back in the day when men were men, in big bendy boots and tweedy jackets, that was the easy bit.
