 Offwidth 06 Nov 2013

In reply to Dan Arkle:

It produces a warm glow that such wonder can come from yet another needless Kinder thread.
 ChrisBrooke 07 Nov 2013
In reply to Dan Arkle: That made me laugh out loud. Great work. The best Hitler parody I've seen. Both informative and dead-on hilarious
 drolex 07 Nov 2013
In reply to Offwidth: Yes we need more of these threads. For instance I have noticed that the glass of water I have left outside yesterday was frozen on the top this morning and the temperatures even during the day have been quite cool for the last 2 days at least - I also have a sore throat. Surely Mam Tor gully is in condition?
 Offwidth 07 Nov 2013
In reply to drolex: Nah. Back Tor maybe soon
 gethin_allen 07 Nov 2013

It snowed and hailed on us out there yesterday!
Oliiver 10 Nov 2013

In reply to Dan Arkle:

Such an obvious parody..... but done so brilliantly. Excellent work Dan!

I did have a question though. The heating in my office is on the Fritz at the moment and I did detect a slight chill in the air...
 mmmhumous 13 Nov 2013
> I bet they still went up and flaked the ropes out at the bottom ready for
when it does come in

I did notice some towel-covered-sun-loungers up there the other day.
 matt pigden 13 Nov 2013
In reply to Dan Arkle: Laughed so hard I had a little accident
Oliiver 15 Nov 2013
In reply to 3leggeddog: Have a look at the forecast for kinder. Cold all next week.
 LakesWinter 15 Nov 2013
In reply to Oliiver: Ok, I'll bite. The ground water is warm still, it is early in the season, it takes everything longer to freeze at this time of year than in February or early March when the ground and water temperatures are much colder, so I'm sure everyone can work it out from there.

Although if anyone wants to go and have a look, be my guest.
 d_b 15 Nov 2013
In reply to LakesWinter:

I heard that Stanage and Millstone are in, so surely Kinder would be good for a bit of dry tooling as well.

*gets coat* *runs*
Oliiver 15 Nov 2013
In reply to LakesWinter: Woah, you're clearly very enthusiastic for kinder downfall. You're clearly experienced with Kinder's physical process to make it freeze .
 d_b 15 Nov 2013
In reply to Oliiver:

It's basic physics. No special kinder knowledge required.
Oliiver 15 Nov 2013
In reply to davidbeynon: I know, i was trying badly to be sarcastic
 d_b 15 Nov 2013
In reply to Ramblin dave:

If I still lived in Sheffield I would be getting over excited and thinking of skiving off work right now. Being exiled to the SW I can afford to be cynical and spend my time pissing on peoples fire instead
 d_b 15 Nov 2013
In reply to Oliiver:

Your failure is noted.
 Nick Russell 15 Nov 2013
In reply to davidbeynon: What do you mean, exiled? Bristol has some of the best winter climbing options in the UK... I even saw an ice smear forming on morning slab last year :p
 d_b 15 Nov 2013
In reply to Nick Russell:

You are forgetting that the north is verifiably superior in every way by definition, and that so called "facts" are irrelivent!
 andrewmc 16 Nov 2013
In reply to Nick Russell:

There is a 'winter climb' listed on the UKC page for Cheesewring Quarry (with photos!); most southerly UK winter climb? :P
 Nigel Modern 16 Nov 2013
In reply to 3leggeddog: Es gab Frost auf dem Auto heute, ist die Kinder Sturz in noch?
Oliiver 16 Nov 2013
In reply to 3leggeddog: How often does Kinder downfall become climbable? Every few years? or a few weeks each winter?
 xplorer 16 Nov 2013
In reply to Oliiver:

Jesus Oliiver, are you some kind of super computer, that ask's every question possible.

You're keen I'll give you that.

To answer your original question. Get online and look at the local weather and make a judgement and go and have a look. It isn't in now and I can't see it being in this side of new year. It does seen to come into some sort of condition a couple of times a year.

Your best bet would be to head to the Lake District, but again after a good long freeze.

Like I said before, get out and go have a look. It's all part of the adventure. If you won't do that, then you don't want it enough.
In reply to Oliiver:

Every few years, and then typically only for a few days. It's by no means in proper winter conditions each year.
Oliiver 17 Nov 2013
In reply to 3leggeddog: Last few years though have been good ones? I remember on April 1st this year, i managed to climb Croweden Clough. crazy
 xplorer 17 Nov 2013
In reply to Oliiver:

Bloooooody Men Tal!
 d_b 17 Nov 2013

I wouldn't mind doing chocolate blancmange gully in winter conditions some time.
 JdotP 18 Nov 2013
In reply to 3leggeddog:

They are spreading grit on Manchester inner ring road this evening, so Kinder downfall looks like a dead cert to be "in" tomorrow....

 Dan Arkle 20 Nov 2013
I went for a walk around Burbage tonight and my wet trousers had frozen solid by the time I got back.
