In reply to lost1977:

In reply to andymac:

Mason i think is 2 to the left of Jimi (my left)
 bluebealach 15 Nov 2013
In reply to lost1977: Marc Bolan (T-Rex) centre dark glasses and Peter Noone (Hermans Hermits) one in from the left?
In reply to lost1977:

Pete Townsend against the left wall.
(Another one with serious questions to answer about his tastes in kiddy porn websites).

In reply to andymac:

If it is Syd it's quite a poignant image .

Everyone is looking at the camera ,but Syd's gaze is somewhere else.
 MJ 15 Nov 2013
In reply to lost1977:

Rick Wright and Roger Waters.
OP lost1977 15 Nov 2013
In reply to andymac:

definitely Syd (taxi for mr Barrett)
 pec 15 Nov 2013
In reply to lost1977: Roders Waters is bottom right (in front of Syd Barret). Mitch Mitchell is just left of Hendrix (behind his right shoulder). Noel Redding is behind Mitch with the clear round specs.
 pec 15 Nov 2013
In reply to lost1977: Is that Nick Mason between Hendrix and waters?

Looks more like Bolan on the extreme right?

In reply to pec:
> (In reply to lost1977) Is that Nick Mason between Hendrix and waters?

No, Mason is 2 to the left of Hendrix.

In reply to lost1977:

Couldn't have been long after this he 'left' the band.

Old tabs had taken their toll
 Fredt 15 Nov 2013
In reply to lost1977:

It's not Daltrey, and I think it's Andy Fairweather Low rear right.
 bluebealach 15 Nov 2013
In reply to pec: Carl Wayne, Bev Bevan, Roy Wood Robert Plant, John Bonham, Nick Mason, Rick Wright....but I've cheated and found the names on the net on another site......and maybe John Paul Jones. Put the names to the faces but Wayne, Bevan, Wood and Plant are all close to Hendrix
OP lost1977 15 Nov 2013
In reply to pec:

the one i suspect is Nick mason is on the other side (messy hair and mustache)

Gilmour joined in Dec 67, and Barrett was gone by the April.

In reply to Dispater:

from Saucerful of Secrets: The Pink Floyd Odyssey book:

'At each gig, the headlining Hendrix was allotted exactly 40 minutes. The Move, who preceded him onstage, had just half an hour. And the Floyd was expected to sum up what they were all about in precisely 17 minutes!...As the tour wore on, Barrett appeared increasingly morose and depressed. Jimi Hendrix, unaware as almost everyone else of the underlying seriousness of Syd's condition, took to addressing him ironically as 'Laughing Syd Barrett'.
In reply to lost1977:

I don't know when, but a story around this time goes that the first time Clapton saw Hendrix play it left him shaking so much he could hardly light his own cigarette.
 pec 15 Nov 2013
In reply to lost1977: Yes, you're all right about Mason, 2 left of Jimi.
In reply to lost1977:

How did you find the photo?
OP lost1977 15 Nov 2013

In reply to lost1977: what a fine gathering. wonder why page isn't there? it's weird that the Move aren't better known- they are up there with the Kinks imo. their bassist/vocalist Ace Kefford (behind Jimi) apparently also lost his mind on that tour..
Andy Fairweather Low behind Roy Wood and Blue Weaver behind Nick Mason..

 malk 18 Nov 2013
In reply to felt: shy like keith?-lol. maybe more to do with not wanting to be upstaged by jimi?
In reply to lost1977:

Isn't that Al Evans fourth from the right? And maybe a young Ron Fawcett....oh, hang on.

In reply to lost1977:

Keith Moon 3rd back on far left?
Jimbo W 18 Nov 2013
In reply to Jimbo W:

Or rather Pete Townshend
 malk 18 Nov 2013
In reply to Jimbo W: no..
 felt 18 Nov 2013
In reply to malk:

Looks like Townshend after he's gone all Amish, then had a Solzhenitsyn moment and grown an underchin beard after a rug rethink, then thought sod it and shaved the beard off, leaving the unfortunate hair. Mick Fowler's just beneath him and to the left; a weaselly Tarantino is squashed twixt Jimi and Mason.

What, neither? Who then?

Did we establish the identity of the guy next to Syd?

Guy Fawkes lookalike .

SO there we were, trundling along Route 66 on The Move's 1969 tour of the USA, stopping often to take photos of the old Wild West.

It was all going fine until we pulled in to Hank's Truck Stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

As we were filling up with petrol, some real redneck cowboy types began taking the p**s out of Roy Wood.

Woody had his hair down past his shoulders and one of these cowboys, who resembled Mongo from Blazing Saddles, began tugging it.

"Hey are ya a boy or a girl?" he demanded.

"We want no trouble," we said. "We're English!"

We assumed that would end all conversation immediately.

But no.

We had just started to get back in the car when other rednecks began shouting "Cissies!"

Our road manager 'Upsy' Downing then made an appearance, after paying for the petrol.

Trouble

"What's the trouble?" he asked. "These guys are in a band and they're with me."

Now, Upsy fancied himself as a bit of a hardcase, but the smallest of the cowboys hit Upsy just once on the jaw and down he went like a sack of spuds!

We dragged him into the car as Carl hit the accelerator, dust flying everywhere and the rednecks chasing after us, yelling and screaming: "Come back here and fight, you English faggots!"

there's a second part to this story somewhere..

As you seem to be curating this thread -- and why not? -- perhaps you'd care to answer that RP query above?
