Hi,
I'm trying to get more information regarding ice climbing in the Valtournenche area.

I have the '600 best ice falls in the alps guide', but the information is pretty limited. Is there a better guide book (in any language) for the area?

Also in the '600 best ice falls in the alps guide' it mentions most of the ice climbing is avalanche prone which I'm guessing is partially down the topology and partially down to the aspect, which I'm also guessing in mid January typically rules a lot of it out. Is there much ice climbing which is usually much less threatened by avalanche (and reliable) nearer to Valtournenche than Cogne?

Cheers,
Steve

ta, was hoping for more info (especially a guide book) on places a bit more local to valtournence (Gressoney is about 1.5 hrs away on a good run), but all useful info
