We were on Eagle Ridge yesterday and found abseil gear at the top of the first pitch. I didn't get quite as far as the gear left beneath the tower which was a pity as I really wanted to clip it! We abbed off too but straight into DG Gully. Conditions all a bit unpleasant.

However, I do have the 4 bits of gear left at the top of pitch 1 if you would like it back. Just let me know the colour of the tape.

What was wrong with the conditions? Verglas, hoar, wind, unreliable ice?

The gear is mine, the tape is red, possibly with a bit of yellow underneath. Sort of glad to hear you found conditions sketchy too - we had around 6 runners in first 100m. We had hoped for some neve but the snow on the crags had formed a crust, under which, it is sugary and shit (sais blog sais facets). For comparison, people were climbing III/IV well into the dark. The crag aprons were delightful however. I had great fun climbing up and down on the snow ice after we abbed off - seemed a shame to waste!
