I have recently bought a new 9.4mm Beal rope, meaning I now have 2. I have got into trad recently and finding leading on a single a nightmare with rope drag on certain routes as expected. The question is can you realistically use 9.4mm singles as half ropes?

obviously they will be much heavier than a typical 8.5mm but a little extra weight has got to be better than terrible rope drag right? just don't fancy spending a load more money on half ropes if I can make do

In reply to andork123:

I've climbed with folks who used 10mm ropes (rated as singles) as doubles. Yeah, there will be a bit of extra weight, but you'll make do I'm sure.
