Headed up north next weekend. (We're stopping near Fort William, so most of the Highlands will be within reach).

Is there any grade II-IV ice yet? Or will we only have snow covered ridges to go at? Looking on the various blogs it seems there's loads of snow up high but not seen any mentions of Ice.

There's loads of ice all over the NW, too many places to list. Just go anywhere high up (if the weather improves).

The Ben high up is plastered with not very helpful crud. Ice burried high up. NW loads more ice, but stay high.

Look at https://www.thebmc.co.uk/bmc-winter-ice-mixed-climbing-international-meet-2... for a list of routes done at the international meet, all grades.

That's an impressive tally of routes climbed. Although it got me wondering how the east ridge of the Douglass Boulder had never been done before with it's proximity to the cic.

The man who wrote the guidebook was obviously more switched on than the rest of us!

Things are pretty well buried just now, if it consolidates things could be good, but who knows in a weeks time.

Not on Meall Gorm (Applecross), which is totally bare after today's thaw
In reply to Andy Nisbet:

Thanks for that Andy, saves me a drive that far. Any notion about the bigger hills in Torridon or further east? Educated guess would be fine...
