In reply to dan bulman: There is quite a nice site just NW of Abbeville.

The coast from Calais all the way down to Le Havre by way of Boulogne and the Somme Estuary is far more interesting than people think. With a bit of research you can find good cliff top walks, old forts, walled towns, interesting harbours, beaches, extensive mud floods and bird reserves, restored steam railway, British and Chinese War Graves cemeteries, English Arts and Craft house, Monet seascapes, etc . . .

Don't hurry past!

Buy a copy of 'All The Aires' and avoid the campsite rigmarole. Do you have to use campsite facilities, toilets/showers? If you are fairly self sufficient I'd just use the aires. The book is well worth the money, each aire has sat nav coordinates in the book so finding them is simple. Covers all of France plus has LPG stations in as well

Get the AA Caravan and Campsite guide for France. Worth its weight in gold. You pay a bit more perhaps, but at least you know where they all are, roughly how much they cost and that you won't be rammed in.

We did a camping trip of France a few years ago and didn't stay in a single crap site.
