And what is it about the devastatingly handsome, awesomely muscled, insanely talented, hot, buff num num that puts him on your list?

He's had my respect ever since I saw him onsight Indian Face in Mrs Num Num's slippers.
 Mick Ward 18 Mar 2014
In reply to Alyson:

What, those big pink fluffy ones, 'interestingly' stained, covered with Mrs Num Num's fag ash?

The dirty dog! He told me he was saving 'em for properly technical stuff - well, V10 at the very least.

And then he whips them out for IF - onsight or not. I can see now what Redhead meant about folk with sloppy ethics.

Num Num's going to have to watch himself if he expects to stay in the top ten. That's all I can say.

Mick (outraged of Tunbridge Wells)

Possibly in that order. Don't know enough/see enough of foreign climbers to put them on the list.
Apologies to anyone I have left off, but did this as a spontaneous exercise, and as an avoidance strategy, as today is a rest day and I am supposed to be getting boring chores done. (Do them once and they need doing again within 12 months, every year it is the same!)

I have met Johnny Dawes, he is a very nice guy but he could not climb with me because he had a broken leg. He was handing out prizes at a competition I went to. If you are interested he has a book and a movie which are both supposed to be very good.

Of all time?

Got to be Colin Kirkus or Menlove Edwards. The latter's seconds generally couldn't follow him, and he was crap at judging grade what grade to award which got a lot of people trying to do subsequent ascents into difficulty.

Guess it's got to be Franco then.....

In reply to shepofthesheeps:

I pretty sure Calum Muskett, Dave Macleod and Nick Bullock have to be pretty near the top for me at the moment.

On a slightly related note, our company has an outdoors budget for the climbing club which can be used for anything from indoor intro lessons for new climbers to outdoor tuition from pro climbers - really exciting!

Anyone got any suggestions on top uk climbers who would do fun day sessions?

cheers

In reply to shepofthesheeps:

Dave Macleod - and it's not a difficult choice for me.

1) He is an astounding all rounder - on that alone there's no-one in the UK to compare with him.
2) Amongst elite climbers he is easily the most intelligent and perceptive of speakers and writers about the experience of climbing.
3) He has an excellent command of the technical pursuit of climbing, in terms of training and tactics, and the willingness and ability to share it.
4) The combination of 2) and 3) makes him completely unique, and he is uniquely insightful about the interface between preparation and performance.
5) The strength of his will is inspiring - both in terms of pushing himself, and in steering his own course through ethical waters.
6) Given the above it is remarkable that he manages also to be modest, nurturing and level-headed.

He only misses out on perfection by failing to express himself like a poet.

He's one of the best climbers because he's relatively unknown? That makes me some kind of superhero.
