In the market for a new MTB, not looking to break the bank, not brand precious, don't really know much about bikes or spec', just want VFM on a good all rounder for 50% road / 50% trail.

Having looked at the bamboozling choice, I've stumbled across this:

Can anyone advise if this a decent buy, given the above?

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks

What's your max budget and what will the 50% trail be like? Just forest roads or trail centres or what?

£600 ish.

I live in South Lakes, so a bit of trail centre, but mainly bridleways around Kentmere etc.

I also do the odd MTB 'race', like Whinlatter, Selkirk etc.

Also looking at the Whyte range, just overwhelmed with the choice.

Any views on the GT specifically; so I can either discount that option or more seriously consider.

In reply to plyometrics: best spec for the money, nothing else comes close really. This plus new pair of tyres, job done.

You'll find these recommended again and again on different forums at your price point.

The GT is decent enough at that price, but it's beaten on almost every spec by the Decathlon bike linked above, perhaps the GT frame is a bit better but that's just speculation. That Decathlon bike really is an exceptional buy.
