Imagine my surprise as I was driving over beely Moor about to head down the hill to Rowsley and on to nuda's when I saw the two Lancasters flying along the valley in front of me! Surprised and delighted to see them!

Wish I'd known. I'd have popped over.

Interesting post. Where did you see them?

In reply to Greenbanks:

I was almost underneath them on Black Hill, thought they were Lancasters.
Took some pics but they're probably rubbish.
They were flying amazingly slow!

Saw them over Morecambe Bay a few weeks back. Even at a distance the sound of eight Merlins is just unbelievable.

I was climbing on Twistleton in the early 80's and nearly dived for cover of The Candle as one of them swept rather noisily down the valley. Superb.

Saw them well from Stanage End, go back and forth over the reservoir. Wondered what it was about. Weren't they around a few weeks ago?

Flypast over Ladybower on their way back from Stockport airshow. Three passes by the Lancaster and a couple by a Spitfire and a Hurricane. Spine tingling to see them and thousands out to watch. Traffic was a bit sticky in the area though!

This was a few weeks ago. Regretably didn't see it.

In reply to toad:

Lancs and Vulcan together, what a sight and as it says probably the last time ever.

They used to be a regular sight at airshows in the 1960s. The Vulcans nose up, flaps expended, tweeking the thrust and desperately trying not to stall, and the Lancs with engines roaring going flat out!

When you see them together it makes you realise just how big the Lancs were. They were described as massive bomb bays with an aircraft designed around them.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-29310596 Towards the end of the clip (pity it wasn't taken from the nose cone) you can see the traffic around Ladybower.
