is there any trad climbing in wiltshire? I am new to the area and i have a mate you wants to give it ago. Is there any crags/areas are at the low end of the grades in this area.
Whereabouts in Wiltshire are you based? Your nearest trad climbing might be the quarries and crags of the Mendip Hills or the coastal climbing at Swanage or Lulworth. There are also some small crags to the east of Bath.
The closest to you will be either the south coast or the mendip Quarries and Cheddar. Lots to go at for sure. I guess the limiting factor is whether you like inland lime, or sea cliff scariness!
As others have said Cheddar and the Mendip hills have a good selection of venues.
One of the best must be Fairy Cave Quarry, you will need to email Ian Butterworth at the BMC to get the code for the lock. http://www.ukclimbing.com/images/dbpage.php?id=30155
The Avon Gorge and south coast areas Portland/Swanage would be your nearest bigger days out climbing.
There should be a new Mendip Guide coming out soon but it could be worth getting the Rock Fax, West Country Climbs, as it covers most of the areas nearest to you albeit only a select guide.
