NEWS: Piolets d'Or for Caldwell and Honnold

The Fitzroy Traverse - starting on the far right., 4 kbThe 2014 Piolets d'Or prizes for alpinism have been announced prior to the main event on the 9th-12th April. Amongst the three teams to be honoured with the golden ice axe are American climbers Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold in recognition of their five-day, seven-summit traverse of the Fitz Roy massif in Patagonia last February.

They've certainly got it right with Caldwell and Honnold for this - and for Bonners for lifetime achievement - richly deserved. Being ignorant/uninformed, I don't know about the other stuff but doubtless it's eminently worthy. And the award should be for stuff that's eminently worthy, even if it's stuff that punters like me have never heard of.

In reply to UKC News: another poke in the eye for ramsden and fowler! They had the permit for the north face of hagshu and the Indians issued another by mistake to the Slovenians who got there a few days before them.
