Are the trad routes on the wombat section of the right wing (e.g http://www.rockfax.com/databases/results_buttress.html?id=206 ) currently banned? How about the easier stuff on catwalk (e.g http://www.rockfax.com/databases/r.php?i=2925 ? Would it ruffle feathers (sic) if we popped over there midweek. Any info appreciated.

In reply to Mountain Llama:

Yeah I have read that but haven't ever climbed at Malham so couldn't picture whether the trad routes on the wombat sector are below or adjacent to the carnage headwall and whether the approach to them would encroach on this. Basically I don't know if it's possible to climb the easy trad there or not atm. Not quite sure what the locals are like so was hoping someone with actual knowledge of the situation could clarify this.

In reply to dr_botnik:

You are normally allowed to climb on the Right Wing but not the Carnage Area as the birds normally nest on the Carnage belay ledges.
Routes likely to be climbable include Pikedaw Wall, Junkyard Angel and Kirkby Wall all 3* classic HVS's and Wombat the classic E2.
If the birds have nested in a different area there will be notices up at the start of the track and nearer to the crag.

The easier stuff on the catwalk is shite, and not particularly easy.

Get yourself up on the right wing, assuming your profile's up-to-date there are some great routes there for you and you'll have the place to yourself as it seems to be out of fashion these days. Don't let bird restrictions put you off Malham, there's still more than enough to go at.
