2015 will see five unprecedented opportunities to climb in Bristol - with no traffic noise.

As those of us who live here know, Bristol has one of the most outstanding city crags in the world, complete with the iconic suspension bridge and superb routes - not all polished beyond redemption!

Bristol Portway will be closed to traffic on the following days from 6:00 to dusk

31st May
14th June
21st June
13th Sept
25th Oct

Other events will be taking place on those days but the crags will be open. There is a steering group overseeing the whole project, as yet there is no website but there is a facebook page with more information https://www.facebook.com/portwaysundaypark The BMC, Avon Mountaineering Club and other climbing groups in Bristol are involved with the project. If anyone reading would like to get involved do contact the organisers via portwaysundaypark@gmail.com

As there is no traffic on the Portway you'll need to think about access - but that will be no problem for those of adventurous spirit!

I will post more on this thread as information come up - do post here if there's more info you would like to know and I will find out.

In reply to Annabel Tall:

There is now a website for the Portway Closures

http://portwaysundaypark.co.uk/

Information about the crags can be found on this site - either search for "Avon Gorge" or start here http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=46 and use the map to explore the other areas.

The first closure is on Sunday 31st May
