I'm looking for a great intro for my next bid project. But what would you consider to be the perfect into?

So far I am such on Papa was a rolling stone by The Temptations.

Hendrix has it pretty well covered from a guitar point of view

All Along the Watchtower youtube.com/watch?v=TLV4_xaYynY&
Voodoo Child youtube.com/watch?v=9irsg1vBmq0&

And many others...

Dire Straits
Money for Nothing youtube.com/watch?v=wTP2RUD_cL0& (less good once the lyrics kick in)

In reply to The Lemming:

Women by Def Leppard
Welcome to the Jungle by Guns n Roses
Master of Puppets by Metallica
Enter Sandman by Metallica
Back in Black by ACDC

Notice a particular genre there? I love a good guitar riff!

Voodoo Chile (as someone has already pointed out) by Hendrix - good shout!

To the person who suggested Dire Straits, you could also add Telegraph Road and Private Investigations.
 mountainbagger 19 May 2015
In reply to The Lemming:

I'm sure all my suggestions would be entirely inappropriate for a bid project!

Marvin Gaye - I Heard it through the Grapevine. Grabs you and pulls you in in a matter of seconds.

The Top Gun Anthem.

... although, listening to it today, the into seems shorter than I remember from the movie, back in its day. Anyway, it's still part of my test playlist for any sound equipment.

Forgotten about that. It is the one that you say, "I am not an Elton John fan except for this song".

youtube.com/watch?v=wAhpIjazFN0&

5:25 minutes of intro!

Excessive 80s look to that video though despite the fact it was recorded in 2000.

The best song intro ever?
'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' obviously. However, doesn't necessarily make it suitable for your next bid project though...

If you want something a bit more direct, how about 'Plaistow Patricia' by Ian Dury and the Blockheads?

Oh yes good one! Also, Phantom of the Opera has a good intro as Daley Thompson knows only too well

Another vote for Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Many of their other classics have superb intros, e.g. Time, Money, Wish You Were Here.

Bowie's (and Nile Rodgers') intro to Let's Dance is another... but the list is endless.

I saw this live in 1974; I'm sure the long intro was because backstage, guys were slapping Lou's face and other things trying to bring Lou round before he shambled on stage completely whacked out, was still brilliant though!

It's got a nice few lyrics along the lines of "do you like me?" "could you ever be my wife, do you love me?". 'Course, it depends on what you're pitching for...

In reply to The Lemming: A great intro that often gets forgotten is on Sade's cover of 'why can't we live together'. Very nice indeed.

In the unusual time signature but definitely classic corner you have Floyd's 'money' and Mike Oldfield's 'tubular bells'.

And in the drum-led corner you've got Zep's 'when the levee breaks' and Peter Gabriel's 'biko'. Top stuff.

T.
