Hello, I was wondering if someone may be able to help me?

I would like a wildlife camera, as I know that I have hedgehogs coming in to my garden, and would to get footage of them!

Just wondering if anyone has one that they would recommend? Or even pictures they would like to share?

Thank you!

For fun, I'll point you in the direction of the legendary John Sherman, (he who gave the initial of his nickname to what we now refer to as 'V' grades). There are lots of wildlife articles on this site BTW, some of which may be useful, most of which are good reading.

Do you mean the little fixed hunting/survey cameras (e.g. http://bushnell.com/hunting/trail-cameras ), or a general use camera?

If the latter, worry less and spend less about the body than the lens. Even my old Canon 20D is ok for most wildlife work apart from birds in flight and low light. The lens is the critical component though and 400mm is really the shortest you can get away with, even in the garden (unless you're sat in a hide and very, very close). The super-zoom style compacts are generally very soft at the long end.

I use a Bushnell Natureview which gives very good remote capture results, and my sister uses the same type for filming otters in her river. Image resolution is HD so not as high as your standard digital camera for stills, but excellent quality video can be obtained. Note though that the night vision sensors are generally not HD yet so expect slightly lower quality for anything captured in the dark (in fact, I turned down the resolution for night filming as my tv does a better job at extrapolation than the camera does).

How much would you like to spend? Anywhere between £100 and £15000 are possibilities
