The National Trust have just installed the mountaineering library owned by Lord Chorley as part of their refurbishment of Allan Bank, Coleridge's former house in Grasmere. The library comprises an amazingly wide range of material from the Himalayan classic expedition and Alpine exploration eras (e.g. Forbes, Freshfield etc) through more modern material (Eiger, first ascents), Lakeland and Scottish climbing to collections comprising the Fell and Rock journal and Alpine Journal sets. So something for a wet day. The Alpine material will save a journey to the Alpine Club library in London? The library is just being catalogued by a charming young woman researcher.....there's an extra incentive.

In reply to potted shrimp:

Thanks for this - didn't have a clue. Been in Allan Bank years ago when my auntie and uncle rented a flat there, and my Dad was born in Tanner Croft (cottages on your left on your way up).
