What is this insect?

I saw this today... (i hope the link works)

Its a small flying insect, with a bright, shiny turquoise thorax and a bright shiny pink bottom!

Ive never seen anything quite so colourful in england before.

Hard to say from the pic. Looks a little bit like a cuckoo wasp, but you shouldn't get those round here.

Yes it looks like a type of cuckoo wasp, Chrysis fulgida, ruby tailed wasp , a rare find.

More likely Chrysis ignita (as your link says!), which isn't all that rare but very striking.
