Worth a watch if you get 20mins spare.
Sad to see these beautiful corners of the Earth destroyed by commercialisation. http://www.epictv.com/media/podcast/fading-paradise---a-tonsai-climbing-doc...

Great little film that's more about the heart and soul of climbing and its community than big numbers.

It's alarming how powerful these mulitnational corporations are to just steam into a place that is absolutely nothing to do with them and just vandalize the place.

I think I went in 1992, not very busy at Tonsai where we stayed. IIRC, we bought dope from the police.

A shame.

Yeah - I'm not sure you can do that these days.

Things change.... Tonsai has/had something very special about it, but it also has/had its negatives. So long as climbing access is maintained, then who knows what positives the development might bring to the area? If it becomes less of a dirtbag paradise, I'm sure the dirtbags will find somewhere new. A few hours South, in Trang province, there is the potential for loads of development on or close to the beach. Railay has had big resorts for years and it hasn't really prevented people climbing there.

If I went back to climb on the Phra Nang peninsula I'd stay in Krabi and take a scooter/boat to climb. Also options of climbing on the crags around Ao Nang, including Spirit Mountain, Naga etc.
