You GB folk who have been on recent climbing trips to Turkey ...
Do you need to apply for a Visa in advance?
Can you get one at the Airport? (Rough cost?)
Does it take ages to get one on arrival? (I have a connecting internal flight).

When I went twenty odd years ago I had to go to the Turkish embassy in London !
I hope things are simpler now. I am GB citizen arriving in Istanbul from Italy and with connecting flight to Alanya.

All info welcome - thanks in advance

You get a Visa at the airport when you arrive. Make sure you have Turkish cash with you. They will also take Euro and Dollar. Don't know about UK Pounds.

It was a couple of years ago when I last went to Turkey but they accepted pounds Sterling. I was annoyed as my Latvian colleague didn't have to pay (seems to vary greatly, even amongst EU countries)

Last time I went I gave them a tenner(I think ) and they put a nice stamp in my passport.seems to be more of a money making thing than anything else.

You need to get one online in advance. I think the physical border booths are being phased out.

When I went it was just a stamp in the passport and handover some cash.

In reply to Erstwhile: Im not sure you can buy at the airport anymore, an e visa system was introduced last year, with the intention of completely stopping buying visas at the airports. I dont know if this has happened yet, so may be worth buying in advance just to be sure

get your e visa here:

In reply to Erstwhile: I bought one at Istanbul airport last November for £20.

I'm back in Turkey now, both Istanbul airports have computer terminals to buy a visa, $20 for all. I presume it will be the same for other airports. First visa I have brought for Turkey for a few years as I have had a residence permit for the last 6 years
