I would like to buy a cheapish action cam, i.e. I don't want to spend 300 pounds on it.
I am nor sure wether it's best to buy a lower spec GoPro (GoPro 3) for example, or go for one of the Chinese GoPro copies, such as Qumox sj4000, or even something completely different, with a different form factor.

Any recommendations? Main use will be use in watersport plus a bit of trail running.

I'm waiting on the Yi personally. Will have to order it from China but reviews are great so far.

Search 'GoPro Hero' on google, you can pick them up for about £99. Amazon seem slightly over priced for a change!

The SJ4000/5000s are pretty good for the money.

Bangoods, AlienExpress and even HobbyKing plus numerous others are already selling the Xiaomi Yi...

I've had mine for a few months already.

The SJxxxx is also a good option.

And for a smaller one Mobius.

Basically it all boils down on what you want to do with it. They all have their pro's and con's. But they all seem to offer a lot better general performance for bucks than the big names (mainly GoPro).

The garmin virb seems to be on sale at a lot of places, year or two old model but good enough quality. Good integration with gps as to be expected with garmin which could be useful if you want to overlay onto your trail runs.

Cheers, honestly I looked at it maybe 6 months ago and haven't gone back to check since.

We have a Garmin Virb HD and it is fantastic. I chose it specifically over a gopro type camera because of its un box like design.

I use it on my kayak and windsurf mounts along with the waterproof casing and never had a problem. The other benefit is that when I use it on my bike, it has a built in GPS which tracks my distance, time elevation etc etc. really is a great piece of kit and the basic model was on sale on sports pursuit the other day quite cheaply.

This is what I have;

I see they have also brought out another box shaped one but the Elite is all I'll ever need, love it! Anyway, hope this helps.
