Hello there,

Manchester University will be having their annual freshers meets on Sun 27th Sept at Froggatt and Sun 4th Oct at the Roaches. These are our two busiest meets of the year so this is just a message to the local climbing community letting you know that approximately 50 students will be at the crags on these dates.

We will be observing good crag etiquette and doing a number of things to ensure minimum impact on the crag and environment:

-groups will be a maximum of three with an experienced leader in each one.
-climbing shoes will be worn by all to limit erosion.
-top ropes will not be set up.
-we will aim to stay on lower quality routes without a high number of stars.
-all litter will be taken away.

I realise that this is not ideal and this post is not attempt to 'book' the crag but I hope you understand that our aim is get new people involved in the sport in a controlled way.

Hope you have a good meet.

Off topic: Do you know if nethymas is on this year? I haven't heard anything through my usual channels yet.

Thankyou, I'm sure we will and hope the weather plays ball too.
Not sure about Nethymas, think it might be a hiking club thing?

My mistake. It attracts enough climbers that I assumed you were more closely related.

... a bit hard on yourselves?

* 1984-6 - the days of the magnificent MacDougall Centre wall. I may be crap at every singly other aspect of climbing, but I can hold small crimps)

In reply to Phil373:

You should get the newbies onto some cracking started routes as well

In reply to Phil373:

Enjoy, but there really is no need to confine yourselves to lower quality routes, you have as much right to be on the crags as anyone else! (And, it is important that beginners enjoy themselves!)

On the other hand, anyone who takes to climbing probably won't thank you for dragging them up a 3 star classic and blowing their future on-sight!
