Was watching the Women's world championship and the commnetators pointed out that fatter tires at lower pressure are now accepted to be faster than thinner ones at high pressure.

I assume that there is some research to this and some writing somewhere but I can't find it. Anyone know where this might be?

If you Google for 25mm vs 23mm tyres you'll find quite a bit, although nothing very conclusive. I think the finding was that fatter rolls faster for the same pressure but you need a wide rim otherwise the bulging tyre spoils the air flow. There's a general trend towards wider rims and tyres at the moment.

In reply to Removed User: theres some material on velonews. As i understand it you're changing the shape of the contact patch so it's wider than longer increasing grip and reducing rolling resistance

Schwalbe have quite a few articles on this, have done for a few years. Basic physics when you think about it.
