James McHaffie on the Prow, 4 kbWe've had a quick chat with James McHaffie and managed to tease his summer ticklist out of him. He has done quite a few hard routes!

How many E7s have you onsighted this year? Probably not as many as James...

A true climber's climber, along with Dan McManus and Tony Stone among others. Outstanding stuff.

Never thought I'd ask this type of question but- what is ground-up no falls?

In reply to GuyVG:

The only thing I can think of is it means he just lowered off rather than fell off
In reply to Michael Gordon:

...or climbed back down.

I hope not, I might have to reclassify some of my on sights!

Absolute legend already, really inspiring stuff.

And hopefully a strong ethical inspiration to all those people who take the hollow challenge-avoiding option of headpointing mid-grade stuff without even trying it properly. Or are even thinking about doing that - don't, look at what Caff does and try to think of the onsighting possibilities for yourselves...

I'm surprised how many of those routes aren't in the UKC database. Come on crag moderators, pull your socks up!

The man's a total legend !!!

In reply to GuyVG:

I imagine that Ground up no falls is where the route in questions is a variation of another route, which if climbed prior to attempting the route in question, would lead to an ascent that isn't an onsight and also not a headpoint?

Or if you've watched someone else climbing it.

So if you want the moderator to add them, presumably you mean that only E7+ leaders should be able to moderate crags?

Sanctimonious tit. Maybe they don't want to, and who are you to dictate style of ascent?

In reply to Removed User and brices:

Those would be more like flash ascents. Ground-up always involves falling or lowering off somewhere in the process.
