Mand the Mrs has Slovenia trip booked for next September.

Does anyone have any Slovenia guidebooks knocking about, collecting dust that they would exchange for cash, beer or goodwill?!

Failing that, any advice on climbing areas there would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
James

I've just sold mine! However, here's a link to our trip report from this year, followed by a couple of links to sites with info and topos

Hope this helps

What kind of climbing?

I'm willing to part with my copy of the sport climbing guide as the bolted stuff there is all too hard for a punter like me

There's also a fairly new alpine rock climbing guidebook that I wrote a brief review of a while ago here: http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=624050&v=1#x8124966

You don't say whereabouts in Slovenia.

If you mean the coast, adjacent areas of Italy and Croatia have plenty of lower-grade routes.

Haven't really decided yet, have only booked flights. But likely to be North - around Bled

It was great, but I 'm getting old and there are still so many places I've not climbed! Gotta move on before its too late. I've even stopped buying Long Playing records. As for long-form TV series......well, don't get me started. ;(

You can walk to Bohinjska Bela from Bled; its a good sport climbing venue (so I'm told) as it pissed with rain when we went these this September and never managed to climb!

the stuff in the hills above Mojstrana is nails hard. Or I kept going off route. Or both.

Bohinjska Bela is nice but it's pretty small and there's not a huge variety of routes there. I was there a couple of months back and I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a travel destination just for sport climbing. That said Slovenia is a beautiful country and if your in the area you might want to take a look.

Not sure if it's your thing, but there's some great via ferrata mountain days to be had in Slovenia. Mangert being one of my favorites; its actually worth doing just for the drive (it's an old alpine pass built in the war), stunning views and endless switch backs! However you will need a hire car to access it.

If you prefer not to hire a car, there's good mountain days to be had from kranjska gora as you can get the bus up the vrsic pass. The bus stop at the top is at an elevation of over 5000ft so perfect for accessing the alpine routes there.

We're actually staying in Bohinj now. It seemed like a good decision at the time considering all of the routes there based on the crag search.

Have not tried via-ferrata and have had some good feedback - so it something we'll look into.

Some multi-pitch sport routes would be nice if you know of any?
