Only ridden that area once, so take this with a pinch of salt. I rode from North Nibley (near Dursley) and there was some great riding in the woods around there. But the bulk of the ride was trying to link bridleways and that was pretty frustrating. Even in August there was lots of mud, in some cases there was no sign at all of the path, in others it would be completely overgrown. I suspect that the majority of traffic on the bridleways would be horses rather than bikes. At this time of year I'd look for quiet roads rather than bridleways.
