I picked up the tail end of a news item last night about a strike by employees on the Caledonian Sleeper on the East Coast Main Line. I followed it up today and discovered a slightly different angle on the common 'more money' motivation for strikes. This one is different.
Serco took over operation of the service earlier this year and there appear to have been lots of issues relating to safety and delays to services that meant that the staff were confronting angry customers. They are striking to get the company to address these concerns.
In times when trade union legislation is being tightened to make it harder to strike does this case highlight areas where strike action is justified for the long term the benefit of customers.

From observation it is justified - the new management seem to be almost trying to run the service into the ground. You only need to watch their Twitter feed to see how there have been all manner of reliability problems, and talk of isolated fire detection equipment is alarming in the extreme.
